Agrafeuse - the story behind the name. I used an online translator and looked up the word for stitcher in French. Agrafeuse was the term it displayed, so I liked it and decided to use it. However, just recently I checked the term with several translators this time and it seems that agrafeuse really means stapler. So, I guess that I am a stapler and not a stitcher. No matter, i will stick with agrafeuse.

I am a beginning costume stitcher, just a little over two years. I am basically self taught with no formal training. However, the online sewing community has been a great help with learning sewing techniques. It all started when I was invited to a murder mystery costume party, fall of 2006, the teme of the party was time of Robin Hood and Maid Marion. For some reason, I decided to make my own costume and the rest they say is history. I made a Robin Hood costume, Maid Marion, Frier Tuck costume and a Lady of the court costume. I really enjoyed the entire process of creating and sewing the costumes. Looking back, they really weren't that great but it was a beginning and we all have had our beginnings. In 2007, the theme of the murder mystery costume party was set during the "Roaring Twenties". Yet again, I made several 20s costumes. It really was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time.
I find myself visiting several of the local fabric stores on a regularly basis, you never know when you will find that perfect fabric for something. It is amazing how quickly the fabric stash grows. There are so many projects that I am interested in. My biggest dilemna is that where I live there's not a viable costume community. There are tons of sewers, quilters etc, but not historical costumers which is my interest. Also, it really helps to have an event to for which you are sewing, you tend to lose steam if there is not some goal. Anyway, I do.
So hopefully, this time around with the journal, I will do a better job of documenting my progress with the costumes that I am working on.
